What a Real Service Visit Looks Like

A proper aircond service is not a ten-minute wipe and a wave goodbye. It is a structured check of every part that affects how well your unit cools and how much power it draws. Knowing the full checklist lets you judge whether the technician at your door did the job or rushed it.

This is the checklist our team works through on a professional aircond servicing visit, plus the simple checks you can handle yourself in between.

The Full Professional Checklist

A complete service moves through the unit systematically. A unit left half-serviced can quietly add 15 to 25 percent to your electricity use under current TNB tariffs.

• Filter and cover. The front panel comes off and the filters are washed. A clogged filter mesh forces the fan motor to draw more power.
• Blower wheel. The wheel that pushes air into the room needs proper cleaning, because a surface wipe leaves the mould a basic clean cannot reach.
• Evaporator coil. The technician inspects the fins for damage and heavy buildup. A choked coil signals that the unit needs a deep chemical wash.
• Drainage tray and pipe. Biological growth forms a jelly that blocks the pipe, so the line is flushed under pressure to prevent indoor flooding.
• Electrical connections. The thermostat and capacitor are tested so wear is caught before it becomes a breakdown.
• Cooling performance. The unit is run to confirm refrigerant pressure and airflow are correct.

What the technician should tell you afterwards

A proper visit ends with a short verbal report: coil condition, gas level estimate, any wearing parts, and the next recommended service date. A technician who packs up without that summary has cut the job short.

Standard Clean vs Chemical Wash, Step by Step

Two service tiers exist, and they are not the same job. A standard cleaning is RM85 and handles the visible parts. A chemical wash, from RM160 for a wall unit, dismantles the unit to treat the coil, blower and drainage. This table shows exactly where they differ.

The Ipoh Factor: Why Your Interval May Be Shorter

The standard advice is a light clean every three months and a chemical wash once a year. In Ipoh, the climate often pushes that forward. Homes near busier or dustier areas, such as the light-industrial fringe around Bercham, load their filters faster still. What You Can Safely Do Yourself

Between professional visits, a little routine maintenance protects your investment.

Rinse the filter monthly. Slide it out, run it under cold water until it runs clear, shake off the excess and let it dry in the shade. Avoid hard brushes, which tear the mesh.

Watch for these warning signs:

• Cooling that feels weaker at your usual setting
• A sour or musty smell when the unit starts
• Water dripping from the indoor body or the drain pipe
• New clicking, buzzing or rattling noises
• The unit running non-stop without reaching the set temperature

Keep the outdoor unit clear. Plants, boxes and debris should stay at least 30cm away so the compressor can release heat freely.

Noting the date of your last service on a sticker inside the casing makes tracking easy. If it has been more than three months, check the filter; if more than twelve, a chemical wash is due.
