Copper piping carries refrigerant between the indoor and outdoor units. Almost every new aircond sold in Malaysia now runs on R32, which operates at noticeably higher pressure than the older R22 standard.

That pressure is why pipe wall thickness matters. Daikin and Panasonic guidelines call for a minimum copper thickness of 0.61mm, or 22 SWG, to safely handle R32. Thin, inferior piping develops microscopic stress cracks under that load. You will not notice a sudden leak. Cooling just degrades over the months while the power bill creeps up. Insisting on correctly rated copper from day one removes that slow failure entirely.

## Insulation That Survives Kinta Valley Humidity

Insulation is where Ipoh’s climate makes the case for itself. With humidity sitting near 84 percent year-round, an under-insulated copper line will sweat constantly, and that condensation drips onto plaster ceilings and feeds mould.

Armaflex insulation wraps the cold copper line to stop the surface sweating. Budget contractors often use thin 9mm foam to trim costs. We replace it with denser 13mm Class O nitrile rubber, applied snugly along the whole run with no exposed gaps at the joints. ## Drainage With the Right Fall

PVC drainage carries condensate water safely outside, usually into a bathroom floor trap or an external drain. A reliable setup follows a few non-negotiable rules.

The Energy Commission, Suruhanjaya Tenaga, requires a dedicated 3-core 2.5mm² PVC cable for standard 1.0HP to 1.5HP household units. Undersized cable runs hot, the casing softens, and bare live wires can end up exposed in the roof space.
